Description

• 5 mm Aluminium protection plate
• Protects engine and gearbox against mechanical damage.

In order to maintain the driving safety and function of all moving and electrical parts, we recommend removing the vehicle underbody from heavy soiling.
For this purpose, the existing protection plates of the vehicle underbody (for example engine, transmission, tank & rear axle) should be dismantled.
In this case, a regular cleaning is senseful, e.g. at the end of the winter half-year, on and after each use in difficult terrain with e.g. Mud, sand / gravel and water passages.

Note: This product is not suitable as a jacking surface.

Care

SEIKEL Protective Elements – Protection Plates, Rock Sliders, and Rocker Panel Protection are made from high-quality, untreated aluminum. While surface finishes such as powder coating, painting, or anodizing are possible, we advise against them, as past experience has shown them to be neither durable nor long-lasting.

To ensure the functionality and appearance over a long period, regular maintenance is very important. Although aluminum is relatively low-maintenance, it is constantly exposed to environmental factors such as road dirt, stone impacts, and road salt during winter. These factors can lead to deposits that need to be removed. Below are some tips on how to properly care for aluminum components:

1. Regular Cleaning
To keep the protective elements in good condition, they should be cleaned regularly with water and a mild detergent. Use a high-pressure washer or a brush to reach difficult areas. Avoid using aggressive or acidic cleaning agents, as these can damage the aluminum.

2. Protection Against Corrosion
While aluminum does not rust, it can oxidize under certain conditions, leading to an unattractive patina. This oxidation does not affect the functionality of the protective elements. Oxidized aluminum parts can be treated with special aluminum cleaners or polishes to restore their material’s shine.

Based on our many years of experience, we recommend using the product “NEVR-DULL®” for maintaining untreated aluminum components. This universal high-gloss polishing wadding is suitable for all types of metals.

3. Inspect for Damage
During regular cleaning, check all aluminum protective elements for any signs of damage. A thorough inspection is advisable, especially after impacts from below.

4. Removal of Protection Plates if Necessary.
For vehicles used in extreme off-road conditions, such as driving through mud, sand/gravel, or water crossings, a thorough cleaning and inspection for potential damage should be performed after each use. Otherwise, it is sufficient to remove the vehicle’s underbody protection (at engine, transmission, fuel tank, rear axle, etc.) once a year, for example at the end of the winter season, for thorough cleaning. When reinstalling, ensure that the specified torque values for the fasteners are observed. Detailed instructions can be found in our installation guidelines, which are available for download on our website.

Conclusion
Through regular cleaning, inspection, and maintenance, SEIKEL aluminum protective elements can preserve their functionality and appearance over a long period.
